essays done! i can now spend hours thinking about trivial things.

There is hope.

i like the new sunburst color scheme. it reminds me of the 70s decor in dallas. like in tina louise's apartment; of course her character ate pavement in today's episode so i won't be seeing the inside of her apartment again. *sigh* southfork is too classy to be trendy--no fun outlandish 70s stuff there. oh well, i'm sure j.r.'s next bit on the side will have an interesting apartment.

i am so hung over.

so i recently saw goldmember, you know the third austin powers movie? and i thought it was pretty interesting. i have only seen it once i may be inaccurate about some of it but i've been mulling it over for a few weeks now and i have to say, i think mike myers might be a bit of a radical. i was having a bit of a fit about him not kissing beyonce on the lips for most of the movie, and when they did kiss at the end, it was very chaste. but the more i thought about it, it was actually nice to not have a black female character be portrayed as a wanton, sex hungry slut. 'cause of course, anyone who has ever had a progressive thought knows that the concept of a slut is completely male and that people can sleep with whoever they want to whenever they want to 'cause it's a personal decision not open to discussion. but anyway. i liked that there was next to no sexual innuendo between them, and while it was obvious they were sleeping together, the cute little pecks on the cheek made it clear that their relationship was not purely sexual. everyone was really respectful to her, and even when mini-me made that stupid joke ("are you sure you don't have a little clone in you? want some?") she made it clear that it wasn't funny and austin was made to feel bad that he laughed at it. their first "kiss" was through the translator nathan lane (which is one of the funniest gags i've seen in a movie in 20 years), and i still think there was chemistry between beyonce and mike. the only thing that bothered me about her portrayal was the fact that goldmember kept getting the best of her by doing the exact same thing over and over (kicking her in the forehead). it's like, tailor a defense to his OBVIOUS offense, right? but that's more a plot point than an anti-woman point. i don't know. i just am really impressed with the characterization of foxy cleopatra in what is basically a silly, throwaway comedy; you know, the kind of movie not really concerned with dismantling sterotypes or messing with the status quo. interesting.
