london calling

There is hope.

i just got back from london last night. i saw 'sexual perversity in chicago' with matthew perry, hank azaria, and minnie driver. it's an excellent play and all the actors were terrific. it's very episodic and in between scenes they projected pictures of chicago from the '70s on the curtain. aw, homesick. not that i remember chicago in the '70s but i think it pretty much looks the same as it does now. except for the people in polyester on the steps of the art institute. and, of course, they showed wrigley field and cub fans 'cause the cubs rule. aw, no comiskey park. sorry sox fans, guess that's 'cause you SUCK! ahem, excuse me. oooooh, and hank azaria has like the best body ever! saw him in swim trunks. nice. before the show we also went to a mexican restaurant. it was the shit! i haven't had mexican since i went home in january and i missed it so much! i had a burrito that was mucho good.

i also hung out with my overachieving friend karen and her live in lovah aussie oliver in oxford. they are totally strange. i love it. we obsessively watched "high school reunion." my sister had sent me tapes of it since it was about our school and we knew some of the people on it. i had seen it before but i was just as hooked again this time. it is totally like when you're a kid and you keep messing with a tooth that's about to come out. it totally hurts but you just can't stop. eeeek. and then of course we got to discussing what our label would be if we'd been on the show. oliver decided that karen's would be "the valedictorian" or "the good girl." she totally was one of our valedictorians and her speech was a poem (a good rhyme-y fun one, not a dark, the-end-is-nigh one). i think i would have been "the good girl" or "the shy girl" or like "the wallflower" or something since i'm fairly certain that if i went on a show like that NO ONE would remember me. unless of course they remembered my name 'cause my dad coached them. *sigh*

we also went to see ani difranco in concert. that was so fun. the guy who opened for her was so entertaining! i cannot for the life of me remember his name or find it on the internet (i'll keep trying) but he was fantastic. and ani actually made the english audience clap and scream and get out of their seats. i was very impressed. all the songs were really good and everyone had a good time. she has really natural stage presence. it was just a really really good time. i'm starting to repeat myself. yikes. time to do some writing on the thesis. wish me luck.

before -- after
